It’s not everyday a watch we helped create hits the auction block – let alone two of them. But that’s exactly what happened yesterday in Geneva, when a pair of HODINKEE Limited Editions came under Aurel Bacs’s gavel at the Phillips Retrospective Auction. Those watches, the 2017 TAG Heuer Limited Edition Carrera Skipper for HODINKEE replica watches and the 2018 Grönefeld 1941 Remontoire Limited Edition for HODINKEE, are two of our most beloved projects, so you can imagine our collective attention was turned toward Geneva’s Hôtel La Réserve yesterday.
The results, to put it bluntly, are thrilling for our entire team. The 2017 TAG Heuer Limited Edition Carrera Skipper for HODINKEE sold for CHF22,680 (with reserve), which is an approximate $19,300 increase – or 327 percent – over the original retail price ($5,900). Our Grönefeld sold for CHF73,080 (with reserve), a 40 percent increase, or approximately $23,200 greater than the original retail price ($58,000). We have previously seen our Laurent Ferrier Traveller Limited Edition sell for 18 percent above retail at Phillips Geneva Watch Auction: Eight, and our Vacheron Constantin Historiques Cornes de Vache 1955 Limited Edition sell for $93,750, a 108 percent increase, at Phillips New York Watch Auction: Five.
