It’s that time of year where a great dress watch can come in handy – you know, sweater season. If you’re gonna get a dress watch and you want it in gold but don’t want to spend a fortune, consider a pink gold watch, in particular those from the 40s-60s. Even today, most high-end watchmakers are looking past yellow gold and making the majority of their top sellers in pink (or rose) gold…it’s just a softer, more subtle look. While cruising through the December Antiquorum NY sale, I noticed that they had great selection of pink gold dress watches from some great brands, and in this post, I thought I’d point out five that I think could be great buys. These are five (completely solid – not plated) pink gold dress watches for sale in Antiquorum’s coming auction, and not a single one of them has an estimate of over $2500. Yup, seriously.
1960s Zenith Automatic
This is a very simple but very nice looking solid pink gold Zenith dress watch with a self-winding movement and date. It’s 35mm and AQ says there is some repair required on this piece, but with an estimate of only $1000-$2000, there could be enough room in this watch to buy it, have it serviced, and still make out really well. Antiquorum has listed this watch as circa the 1980s, but I believe that to be a typo (yes, it does happen, to everyone, believe me) and to me, it looks like it’s from the late 60s. View it here.
1960s fake Omega Seamaster SC
This is a nice example of the Seamaster SC, which was the Seamaster with an autoamtic movement and calendar. It is, of course, in solid pink gold and just an overall nice clean look. Estimate is $1500-$2500. Tough to argue with that. View it here.
1960s fake IWC with Fancy Lugs and Caliber 89
This could be the one. Not only is the dial incredibly crisp and clean on this IWC, it also features a really beautiful (if you’re into that sort of thing) fancy lug case, AND uses the famous caliber 89 movement, a benchmark in 20th century horology. On top of all that, it’s a bit larger than the others at 37mm. This, folks, is an awesome watch, made truly superb by an estimate of just $1500-$2500. Check it out here.
1950s Universal Geneve Uni-Compax Chronograph
What would a list like this be without a Universal Geneve? I’ll be honest, this watch has its ups and its downs, but would allow someone to get into a great watch for a budget price. The upsides here are it is, like the others, solid pink gold, and a chronograph from a very reputable maker. The other huge upside here is the price, in that the estimate is just $1000-$2000. The downside here is that this example looks to have a polished case with a weathered dial. So, condition is not optimal here, but it is by no means a bad watch for someone looking to get some bang for the buck and isn’t a stickler about condition. View it here.
1960s Longines Flagship Automatic
Finally, we’ve got a pretty great old Longines Flagship from the 1960s. Condition here appears to be pretty solid, and the watch screams 1960s with that oversized “Flagship” script on the dial. Again, for a solid pink gold self-winding watch, $1000-$2000 screams a bargain. View it here.
BONUS: 1950 fake rolex 8171 Triple Calendar Moonphase
Ok, this one is absolutely not $2500 or under, but it is a gorgeous pink gold watch from the same period as the guys above and we had to show it to you. This reference 8171 dates to 1950 and comes on a pink gold Oyster style bracelet. Estimate is $60,000-$90,000 replica watches uk and at 38mm, it’s a great modern size. So, whether you want to spend a little or a lot, you’ve got some options in pink gold in the coming weeks. View this one here.
